Interview : ‘Pruch Sintunava’ Pop Surreal Style

Please introduce a little background about yourself ,and What are you currently doing now ?

I used to work with an animation studio for a year, and also a game company for 3 years. It has been 2 years now as a freelance, that I am working for myself and with my painting.

When did you get in Art ,and why ?

I started to personally like “Surreal Pop” Art while I was working with the companies. During that time, There were various things in my life that motivate me to think and find a way to express that ‘feeling’ in my gut. I found “Surreal Pop” connected to that feeling of mine,so I started to pay more attention to it.

What was your style like during your first work back then? What is the change and progress you see along the way ?

While I was in the university, I like to draw japanese cartoons. And, I learned the basic of digital painting there too. I learned and experienced new things mainly from my past job. It has brought me a new perception to the world ,and an developement to my style. From that on, I have always developing my style and drawing with the japanese cartoons and characters along the way.

You have a very unique and interesting style in characters. What is the inspiration behind those characters ?

Like I said in the previous question, My character grows and based on Japan Cartoons. I like to implement my japanese cartoons drawing skill and technique to enhance the expression. For example, A painting can be sad. But, Why is it sad? I always questioned myself that ,and put a deeper message into it. I want to able to fulfill my characters with full of expression and various emotions because it is the fascinated element.

We noticed that most of you characters are girls. Is that right ?

I am not certainly sure, but I really try to draw both boys and girls because each own has individual story behind. After this, I believe that my boy character will be expose more.

Actually, Is your work identical to surrealism? If yes so, what is the reason behind the style ?

I am also curious about what type of category is my style too. I believe that other artist would find it as struggle as well. I would guess that my style would be a crosspath of Pop Art and Surrealism. My symbolic painting is mostly filtered from personal experience and comes to character.

What is the inspiration behind the making of your art ?

I mainly inspired by my personal life experience, yet coming up with a new idea is a total different progress. It cames out mostly when I am in my own zone. I like to sketch it out before it goes away.

What is the concept behind narrating part of your work ?

I always questioning and trying to define the meaning of well human being. The pressure between one’s self vs. society ,and the cost of living that we have pay to survive; These are the aspects that i always include behind my character from day one.

How do you vs. your audience see and find your art fascinated ?

I am not quite sure what the audiences see out of it. I believe if any of my audiences able to differentiate between themselves and society, and they like japanese cartoons. There is definitely something in my Artwork they can be related to.

Are you interested in anything else besides your art, right now ?

I like to read a philosophy book and game books. I like to learn from the person or an author behind those work. Existentialism is my favorite philosophy, and indie games.

Do you have any idol or artist that has such impact to you and your work ?

I learned a lot from Hikari Shimoda ,simply from just observing his work. Majority of it is his way thinking. I actually have a several other people that i look up to, But Hikari Shimoda has such an impact to me, the most.

As a new generation artist, what do you see in the future of Thailand Art Scene ?

I am not quite sure, but we still don’t have that much “Pop and Surrealism” Art.” Or, They might have not been promoted more to some extend. In the future, I would like to see this type of Art being exposed more.

What is your principle in the making of your art ?

My main goal is able to draw and fully express myself. By questioning myself and my audience about how important the society needs to move forward and progress as one. My Artwork will be the reminder to the society that we need to contemplated before we move on.
